About

“Thoughts sparked by inspiration, conditioned by circumstance and taught by paradox.”

That is what I like to say about my intellectual interests and inclinations and how they’re expressed. But here’s some more about me.

I am interested in a variety of things these days, perhaps with this underlying notion inside myself that I am heading towards an efficient, sustainable, enlightened lifestyle. I am passionate about being passionate – it is as if I need an interest to make my life interesting. It is not without discipline or predictability, however, that I choose interests these days. Like others, I have been conditioned by circumstance (as I have mentioned), and as a result, I find myself searching for gain from my obsessions, which is sometimes not an altogether bad thing to do. Although I like to think that I am heading towards an efficient, sustainable and enlightened lifestyle, sometimes I am befuddled by the nature of reality and how it is, vis-a-vis how it could have been.

Some of my interests are aircraft, technology, science, philosophy, mathematics, music and debate. Of these I am currently big on music, photography and technology, probably owing to the changing nature of my environment and my reactions to these changes. Some of my previous obsessions were aircraft, mathematics (specifically robust optimization algorithms, statistics, mathematical modeling, etc), engineering (specifically structural engineering and finite element analysis), philosophy (specifically logical positivism, existentialism, logic) and a few other obsessions from time to time. Sooner or later, I may develop a new interest. I like to revisit interests, sometimes plagued by the fact that I did not get enough out of them. This is especially with ideas that I hadn’t developed when I was obsessed with them.

By profession I am an engineering consultant who represents his company at client sites and thanks to the nature of my job, I have traveled around quite a bit. Photography, music, work and thinking keep me occupied.

  • there is no visible thought to be provoked by inspiration… an inspiration is in itself, a thought…. thoughts r neither inspired nor awespired, they r instantaneous, inspiration is but a mockery of a mellow mind…

circumstances do not condition a thought… they simply favour or repel, two sides to a symmetrical coin… (the argument of the coin standing on its edge simply resembles the blossoming of the thought… u r now aware…) a partially favoured thought is not a thought at all… it becomes a problem, n then an obstruction..

paradoxes teach… they teach u not to look at any more paradoxes (like i m doin now above… sorry but i never learn this lesson)

do not waste ur time n precious life on such ponderings my friend… in case u r in the category of simultaneous performers, then i commend u, otherwise kindly reserve ur “thoughts” for a more decent phase of life (i m assumin u havent seen the first space shuttle launch in person… if u have, then forgive my meanderings)

sorry for borin/contradictin u… these r jus some of my “thoughts”, jus an idle strider passin by… i havent logged in hence the name above… incase u wanna c my really borin blog (m too lazy to post often, n im kinda new too)…

    virtual4redemption.wordpress.com

kindly check out the small title ive put forward… lukin forward to ur criticism aka comments… have a grand day phil the introvert…

(incase ur wonderin, i gave dat Jung test twice… ENFP n ENTJ were the outcomes… yes i did give it seriously… take care)

  • Theoretical thought is usually inspired. Surely, your own thoughts also are so, at some level.

Circumstances condition the thoughts which will come from one’s mind.

Paradoxes conradict premises and perhaps they also teach, as you say. To understand paradox is to understand the nature of logic.

Thanks for putting up your thoughts. I am sure your excitement at the first space shuttle launch cannot be contained. I don’t understand what you mean by a simultaneous performer, but I appreciate your concern. I have a decent life, though.

I’ve given different types of Jung tests, and have turned out INTJ mostly, sometimes INTP. I recommend that you give it not with caution, but with honesty. ENFP and ENTJ have conflicting primary functions and an inconsistency is therefore quite likely. Thanks for dropping by and have a great day/night.

  • Hi Phil – sorry to leave a comment, but I couldn’t find any other way of contacting you on your site. I want to ask you about your experience of running Ubutuno on your machine, because I am considering purchasing the same machine – ” Ubuntu 6.06 LTS on a Lenovo 3000 N 100 (Centrino Core Duo, Intel GMA950, 512 MB DDR2)” Is it reasonably fast? All Hardware supported? Thanks in advance, Ivan

  • Hi Ivan,

I have had minimal problems with Ubuntu on my laptop. Chief among them were resolution of my widescreen (easily fixed using 915resolution), the fingerprint reader and the web cam. All the other stuff works flawlessly.

Overall this machine is way better than most other laptops for use wih Linux in general and Ubuntu in particular. It is very good value for money IMO. I have documented my experiences in a thread on the Ubuntu.com forums, so I will spare you more explanation and direct you there:

Hope that helps you make up your mind! :-)
